the violent tranquillity of rinko kawauchi
Rinko Kawauchi creates an ambience where nature,
people and objects are treated equally, and all
differences are lost. Every subject is unaware of its
faith, unaware of the camera click, leaving us
viewers suspended in a confusing limbo where
details of the everyday life transform reality into
There's nothing you've never seen before.
Nothing you didn't know.
But those colours and lights are exposing a new perspective.
Those moments reveal a rare angle: the
concealed harshness within normal life.
Rinko Kawauchi is a Japanese photographer. In 2012 she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of The Royal Photographic Society. She has published more than 15 books and participated in countless exhibitions.
